Fifty-seven Surinamese companies have completed the third edition of the Blue Wave Supplier Development Program. They received their certificates on December 3, 2025. The Blue Wave program is an initiative of Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V., supported by Chevron, Qatar Energy, TotalEnergies, and PetroChina.
The Blue Wave Supplier Development Program aims to support small to medium-sized enterprises in Suriname in their development as suppliers to the offshore oil industry. In June of this year, sixty companies began the six-month training program, which combines in-person and online sessions. To date, 115 companies have been trained, divided into four cohorts. After a personal gap analysis, participants were given access to the Blue Wave library. This library contains practical documentation to help them bridge the identified gaps. This allows the companies to prepare for the strict requirements of multinationals in the offshore oil and gas industry, allowing them to focus on achieving international quality and safety standards and successfully completing their certification processes.
The program stimulates collaboration and innovation and contributes to sustainable growth. Increasing the number of certified companies strengthens the local chain, reduces dependence on foreign suppliers, and creates more opportunities for Surinamese companies in the oil and gas industry. The Blue Wave program has a direct impact on strengthening local companies and thus contributes to increasing local content.
The costs of the program were largely covered by Staatsolie and its partners, with a contribution from the participating companies. The training courses were provided by Blue Wave, an American company specialized in supplier development for the oil industry. To ensure that the training is well-aligned with Surinamese practices, Blue Wave is supported by a local consultant.
