Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. (Staatsolie) plans to carry out a 3D seismic survey in the south-central part of the Surinamese Shallow Offshore area, off the coast of Saramacca and Coronie. The proposed survey area covers approximately 2,000 km², with water depths ranging from 20 to 40 meters. The purpose of this survey is to collect data to assess potential oil and gas reserves. The seismic survey is scheduled to start in mid-November 2025 and will take approximately 60 days.
In accordance with the guidelines of the National Environmental Authority (NMA), an Environmental Management and Monitoring Plan (EMMP) was prepared prior to this project. Staatsolie appointed the consulting and advisory firm ILACO Suriname N.V. for this purpose. The results of this study are documented in a draft report, which is available for public inspection via the following link: https://sites.google.com/view/nma-mea-eia-repository/hom.
