Staatsolie Maatschappij Suriname N.V. is investing in the complete renovation of two buildings of the Faculty of Technology (FTeW) at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname (AdeKUS). The renovation works officially commenced on 13 August 2026.
The renovation project was officially launched in the presence of Staatsolie’s Managing Director, representatives of AdeKUS and FTeW, and FTeW students.
The project involves the complete renovation of two FTeW buildings: the woodworking hall and the mechanical engineering hall. Due to its poor condition, the woodworking hall has been out of use for several years. Following the renovation, the space will be converted into classrooms for electrical and mechanical engineering students to meet the need for additional teaching facilities. The mechanical engineering classroom and practical training area will also undergo major renovations, as the building has deteriorated over the years. The renovation of these two FTeW buildings will provide approximately two hundred students with a safe and suitable learning environment. The work is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.
The renovation of the two AdeKUS buildings is part of Staatsolie’s social investment projects in connection with the company’s 45th anniversary in December last year and aligns with the theme “Empowering communities and institutions.” Through this investment, Staatsolie is contributing to improved educational facilities for Surinamese students and the development of technical talent in Suriname. This is particularly important given the expected economic spin-off from Suriname’s offshore oil and gas sector. Demand for well-trained professionals, technical expertise and strong institutions is expected to increase. By investing in education today, we can help shape our national development and steer it in the direction we choose as a country.
Staatsolie has been investing in the development of education and young people in Suriname for many years. The company initiated the NATIN Oil and Gas Programme, invests in the modernization of technical education and practical training facilities, and supports vocational training programmes, such as welding courses, through the Stichting Arbeidsmobilisatie en Ontwikkeling (SAO). Through the SURICAP programme, Staatsolie also works with international oil companies, the government, educational institutions and other companies to strengthen technical and vocational education in Suriname.
